Once Upon a Time - Quite a Common Fairy
First of all, the biggest squee moment from this episode: They said they were gonna have a gay/lesbian character on the show and they did. AH!!!!!!!!!! This is wonderful. More on that later though....
This episode's main storyline actually bothered me on several levels. First of all, it looks like the show is shipping Regina/Robin Hood as being a true love couple. Now I don't like this for a number of reasons. First of all, while this episode does reveal that Maid Marian is dead, it also seems to insinuate that Marian and Robin never had true love together, which disappoints me a lot, to be honest given that I'm actually quite fond of their love story in the classic tale, and I also really felt for Robin's plight back in "Lacey" when he was willing to sacrifice his own life to save hers. Also, I just really don't feel like Regina and Robin are all the compatible. What Regina needs in a true love at this point is someone who has been down the same dark road as her, someone who understan

Once Upon a Time - Lost Girl
Another outstanding episode for this season. Two for two.
Rumple continues to play the lone wolf. Him summoning the image of Belle to speak with him didn't make a whole lot of sense, but I don't really mind because having those two interact is always wonderful. I liked him talking out his problems with Belle, and finding out the meaning of that doll. So, I was wrong. It wasn't about Bae, it was about his father. Daddy issues, I see. His scene with the doll constantly finding its way back to him was nicely unsettling. It really highlighted the fact that he is trying to run away from being an orphan as well, furthering his connection to the main story.
And we also get a flashback to the Enchanted Forest in this episode. First of all, SIDNEY!!!!!! YES!!!!! Oh it was a breath of fresh air to see the return of the mirror. Also, I friggin' loved Regina's dresses this episode. My Walt that woman has the best wardrobe. I liked that this episode went more into detail of Snow and Charming's figh

Once Upon a Time -The Heart of the Truest Believer
And we're off to a wonderful start.
I enjoyed seeing the opening with Emma giving birth to Henry. It was only a small scene but it set the stage for the high emotional stakes and guilt that Emma is going through at this point in time in the present.
The story in the Enchanted Forest with Neal was awesome. It was great seeing Aurora, Mulan, Philip, and Robin Hood again. I'm not a fan of actor changes without in-universe reasoning but given that Robin was barely a guest star last time, so I forgive it. Neal's friendship with Mulan was really nice, and I loved their interactions. I also love the continuity here: the globe from Oz that Jefferson gave Rumple, Aurora's dream walking abilities, and even Rumple's old walking stick. It was just a really great subplot.
But, oh, as much as we can talk about subplots, the main plot in Neverland was one of the most amazing things EVER!!! I absolutely adore Hook and Regina's conversation at the beginning about being the villains. The two of them tog

Once Upon a Time - And Straight On Till Morning
Fantastic episode. Utterly fantastic through and through.
The flash back of this episode was incredible. My half joking prediction last week came true, and this flashback was all about Hook and Baelfire having a Silver and Jim thing. It was incredibly touching and emotional. Their scenes together where they bonded over their parental abandonment issues, and Hook wanting to be a surrogate father to Bae to pay respect to Milah was all very touching. Honestly, it was the most emotional that Hook has every been and it was just... FEELS!!! Their inevitable parting was tragic and Hook's regret over it was very apparent. Also, the actual Peter Pan makes his debut in the series. Can we say, took a level in badass?
But, as incredibly heart wrenching as the flashback was, it had nothing on the utter feels of the main story. With the destruction of Storybrooke becoming immanent, everyone is making amends and rising to the occasion. From the most noble characters like Snow to the most diabolical l

Once Upon a Time - Second Star to the Right
After last week's iffy episode, things really started picking up in this one.
This week's flashback takes us back to Baelfire/Neal first arriving on Earth. Giving us a good estimate of the time that has past, he lands in Victorian London, and is taken in by the Darling family. He and Wendy particularly become close, and the the two develop a strong brother/sister relationship. But when an evil shadow threatens to abduct one of Wendy's brothers off to Neverland, Bae must make a sacrifice to save his new family. Right off the bat, it was good getting to see Young Baelfire again. I really like the boy who plays him, and he is a consistently strong actor from what I've seen in this show. Wendy, despite not getting to do much, comes off really well here. She was characterized much like the classic Wendy, but, with this dark spin on Peter Pan, she has much more of a "break the cutie" moment than the happy realization of Disney's Wendy, and I like that. It works well within this show's tone.

Once Upon a Time - The Evil Queen
I'm still unsure about how I felt about this episode.... Don't get me wrong, it was incredibly well done, but I was hoping it would have gone in a different direction.
The flashback this episode focused on Regina coming to embrace herself being "The Evil Queen". It's very consistent with Regina's personality that she would view herself as the benevolent and liberating queen even when killing guards. Her shapeshifting into a peasant and seeing the kingdom from that perspective was an interesting idea. I liked how Snow's compassion for strangers was shown off as well as her still holding Regina as her childhood hero. I also really liked how moved disguised Regina was by this. Although, of course, the story had to keep the Snow vs Regina conflict alive for the sake of the present and a traumatic view of hundreds of corpses caused by Regina's anger is just used to overwhelm Snow to the point of temporarily seeing Regina as a complete monster and declaring her opinion as such (I say tempora

Once Upon a Time - Lacey
Once Upon a Time returns from it's three week hiatus with an episode filled with RumBelle feels.
The flashback this episode introduces Robin Hood, but it's all about Rumplestiltskin and Belle's time together as it should. It developerd both characters exceptionally well and showed us more on how their time together made them grow closer. Belle seeing the good in both Robin and Rumple was very compelling and fit with her character wonderfully. I loved all of their interactions. Robin Hood wasn't up for much and was really only there for name recognition. Any basic honorable thief would have worked in this role, especially since it looks like this was a one time thing. A few moments worth mentioning were Rumple's conversation with the Sheriff of Nottingham where the Sheriff asked for "a night with Belle", and Rumple flatly refusing and getting angry at the Sheriff was a fantastic little moment. His affections for Belle really came through in that moment and was fantastic foreshadowing at

Once Upon a Time - Selfless, Brave, and True
This was an interesting episode in that it really didn't involve me at all despite having several moments that should be huge "BAAAUUUMMM" moments and great story development. I think it largely has to do with August's return. If you'll recall, I don't particularly care for August, and, considering that this entire episode was literally all about him, it's natural that I didn't really care for the episode. It was good and well written, but I just didn't get very involved, unfortunately.
Tamara makes for a fascinating villain, and, while I am interested in her, this episode really didn't give enough to make me care just yet. Which is weird because we didn't get very much on Cora or Regina when they were first introduce and I immediately became fans of both of them. I don't know what it is. By all accounts, she should be a character that I'm really excited for. But she's not. It's just weird....
So, yeah, this review is short and it sucks. I don't know why I'm so apathetic towards this e

Once Upon a Time - Welcome to Storybrooke
GRAHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahem, now that we got that out of the way, onto the review.
This season, Once Upon a Time has been divided into several arcs with major turning points to represent the transitions. We had "Broken" which started the "Emma and Snow in the Enchanted Forest" arc. We then had "The Queen of Hearts" which ended that arc and started the "Hook and Cora in Storybrooke" arc. Now that arc came to an end in last episode and a new one has begun. I can't quite say for sure what's coming in this new status quo but, until further notice, I'm calling this "The World Comes to Storybrooke" arc, which had beginning stages established in "The Outsider". Normally, with Once, the "finale" episodes have been superb but the "premiere" of the arcs have been subpar. However, this was not the case with this episode.
This episode focuses on Regina, and, as with all Regina episodes, it was an emotional roller coaster. The flashback shows the first week after the Dark C

Once Upon a Time - The Miller's Daughter
HOLY SHIT!!!!!! I'm just.... in a state of disbelief right. Why? Well, let's start with the flashback which was considerably less "ERMHGRD".
That's not to say that the flashback was bad. On the contrary, it was the best we have seen since The Outsider. We find out Cora's back story in this episode. It was incredibly well crafted and shows just how Cora ticks. It was all very in continuity with what we've seen before. We find out that she's always been strong willed and beared malice towards to aristocracy, which laid the ground work for her to become the manipulative bitch that we've seen today. Her budding romance with Rumple is handled very well, and her placing such a high value on power over love works so well, especially considering her drunken father. Cora seems to value actions above love which is decisive in her ultimate decision to remove her own heart to get rid of that pesky love that she considers such a weakness. The way she got around her deal with Rumple was.... very Cora

Once Upon a Time - The Queen is Dead
Tonight's episode was a series of BAAAAAUUUUMM moments and well done epicness to contrast to last week's more character driven story and it works incredibly well.
We, disappointingly, don't get much from the Gold/Neal/Emma/Henry thread this episode, but given its heavy focus in the last episode, it's understandable. But there was still some good stuff. The conflict from last episode thankfully isn't resolved here yet. It takes time and needs more growth. Hook shows up in New York City to stab Rumple with poison. This does a good job of uniting everyone and driving the story back to Storybrooke despite the unresolved personal conflicts. I'm happy for this. In this episode, they all but say that Neal is also Peter Pan, which I also like and I'm glad they addressed that timeline factor. Also, Neal's engaged. I think we all saw that coming. I'm still holding out hope that Emma and Neal will end up together by the end of the season. Overall, while brief, the stuff in NYC was very decisive t

Once Upon a Time - Manhattan
After last week's disappointing episode, we got an excellent and very character driven "BAAAUUUM" episode.
Neal (Henry's dad) is Baelfire. People guessed it from the first time Neal appeared in "Broken", and it came to pass here. A little predictable, sure, but I was still very satisfied with this outcome. I love Snow and Charming's lampshade hanging in regards to the bizarre family tree it made for a good comical moment amidst an episode of heavy feels. Also, one thing that I want to point out, though they don't mention it, Hook is Henry's step-grandfather on the paternal side so all of the villains and main heroes are related. Anyways, as opposed to the break-neck pace of the previous episode, this episode wisely moved at a slower pace, taking the time to show how Emma, Henry, Neal, and Gold all felt about the situation. Their charcterizations were consist and strong. I loved it. It was very emotionally compelling from all sides. Most of the episode was four people standing around ta

Once Upon a Time - Tiny
I'm not going to lie, this was an episode with a lot of potential and it kinda fell flat. It mainly suffered from great build-up but subpar resolutions.
First off, despite its limited focus in the episode, Emma, Henry, and Gold at the airport had a lot to like. Mr. Gold going through airport security was both humorously entertaining, and yet intense because of the possible prospect of Gold loosing his memories. I'm glad that they left Gold's memories ambiguous for now. Although, given everything, I think he kept them, but, of course, the whole situation is very frightening and emotionally taxing, hence the scene in the bathroom. It was just a lot of great character moments that I enjoyed.
The main two plots, however, I felt needed work. Both the situation in Storybrooke and the flashback story were incredibly predictable. Normally, I have no problems with predictability if its done well, but, as I said before, this episode is a lot of build up and not a lot of payoff. Both stories had

Once Upon a Time - The Cricket Game
So, the new episode of Once came on tonight. I squeed multiple times. I cursed out Cora multiple times. I wimpered for Regina multiple times. To say the least, I was invested.
I'm glad that everything's back to Storybrooke now. While the Enchanted Forest storyline was good, this just feels right. It's the essence of the show again, and, as such, I feel like this episode is one of this season's strongest. This was a very character driven episode, which I liked a lot. We got a nice insight into Emma, Regina, and Snow in this episode. Emma really proved her strength as a hero by defending Regina for most of the hero. I like that she was willing to believe that Regina changed. Likewise, I'm glad that Regina got some development here. It was sad seeing her being broken again. She's gotten so close to putting the pieces back together over the past seven episodes and all of it fell apart because of Cora's deception. You really felt for her in this episode. While I was disappointed at the lack
